Hasti Hossein Panahi took a bold step on November 7, 2022, affixing a handwritten flyer bearing the message (Woman Life Freedom) to a car. Unfortunately, her actions were captured by surveillance cameras, drawing unwanted attention.
Two days later, intelligence officers from the Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the school principal, arrived at Hasti's school. This ominous visit coincided with security forces increasingly occupying schools to intimidate students amidst the unrest. Summoned to the principal's office, Hasti's fate during the interrogation remains shrouded in mystery to this day.
Around 1 p.m., Hasti was spotted in a state of distress, fleeing to her school bus with disheveled hair and trembling visibly. Regime forces attempted to forcibly remove her from the bus, but she resisted. Onboard, she expressed frantic fears of arrest and threats against her family. Just five minutes into the journey, overcome by panic, Hasti leaped from the slow-moving bus, sustaining grave injuries and slipping into a coma that lasted six agonizing months. Denied proper medical care and plagued by ongoing threats, she and her family ultimately made the painful decision to flee Iran for their safety.
Following their escape, they reached out to The Munich Circle e.V., whose collaboration with German authorities facilitated their relocation to Germany. Now, Hasti can access the vital medical treatment she requires in a secure environment, offering her a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness of her ordeal.
