Farzad Moradinia endured a brutal assault on October 8, 2022, in the Kurdish city of Sanandaj, Iran, where he was directly struck in the face by a tear gas canister. The impact shattered his zygomatic and cranial bones, as well as his upper jaw and orbital bone, resulting in the loss of his left eye. As his story gained public attention, the Iranian secret service intensified their efforts to apprehend him.
Faced with imminent danger, Farzad had no choice but to flee Iran, despite battling severe pain and grave inflammation from his injuries. Seeking medical attention in Tehran would have surely led to his arrest. Recognizing the urgency of his situation, The Munich Circle e.V. established contact with him early on, working closely with German authorities to facilitate his entry into Germany.
Now residing in safety, Farzad can access the critical medical care he requires without the constant specter of arrest looming over him, providing him with a newfound sense of security and hope for the future.
