Asal Jazideh participated in the protests against the oppressive regime on October 1, 2022, following the tragic death of Masha Jina Amini. During the demonstration, she was targeted by anti-riot units, resulting in a horrifying ordeal. As she attempted to flee, she was struck by a projectile, feeling a sudden wetness on her face as she sought refuge in a nearby street. Subsequently, she recalls little of the events, falling into a haze-like state.
The consequences of the attack were severe – Asal lost vision in her left eye due to the shotgun blast, necessitating surgical removal of her eyeball despite medical efforts to save it. Additionally, her right eye sustained damage from shotgun pellets. As if her physical suffering weren't enough, she faced heightened pressure from the regime, receiving menacing messages and calls from secret services demanding her surrender. Faced with escalating threats, Asal and her mother had no choice but to flee Iran, leaving behind their homeland.
Following their escape, they reached out to The Munich Circle e.V., whose collaboration with German authorities facilitated their relocation to Germany. Now, in a place of safety, both Asal and her mother can access the medical attention they require, beginning the journey towards healing and recovery.
